ILM Nominated for Ten VES 2005 Awards

ILM received 10 nominations for the VES 2005 Awards for their work on Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith (4 nominations), War of the Worlds (3 nominations), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2 nominations) and Jarhead (1 nomination). Other heavy hitters include King Kong and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

ILM received the following nominations:

  • Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith - Best Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture: John Knoll, Roger Guyett, Rob Coleman, Denise Ream.
  • Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire - Best Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture: Jim Mitchell, Theresa Corrao, Tim Alexander, Tim Webber.
  • Jarhead - Best Supporting Visual Effects in a Motion Picture: Pablo Helman, Jeanie King, Grady Cofer, Brett Northcutt.
  • Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith "Opening Space Battle" - Best Single Visual Effect of the Year: John Knoll, Jill Brooks, David Weitzberg, Jeff Sutherland.
  • War of the Worlds "Fleeing the Neighborhood" - Best Single Visual Effect of the Year: Dennis Muren, Pablo Helman, Sandra Scott, Marshall Krasser.
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire "Dragon" - Best Animated Character in a Live Action Motion Picture: Steve Rawlins, Eric Wong, Robert Weaver, Steve Nichols.
  • Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith - Best Created Environment in a Live Action Motion Picture: Jonathan Harb, Hilmar Koch, Yanick Dusseault, Brett Northcutt.
  • Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith - Best Models and Miniatures in a Motion Picture: Brian Gernand, Pamela Choy, Ron Woodall, Kevin Reuter.
  • War of the Worlds - Best Models and Miniatures in a Motion Picture: Ed Hirsh, Steve Gawley, Joshua Ong, Russell Paul.
  • War of the Worlds - Best Compositing in a Motion Picture: Marshall Krasser, Michael Jamieson, Jeff Saltzman, Regan McGee.

A few other interesting tidbits:

  • King Kong received 4 nominations, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe received 2 nominations, Batman Begins and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory received 1 nomination each.
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire received 3 additional nominations (for the work by Framestore CFC, Cinesite Europe and Double Negative) making it the most nominated project of the year with a total of 5.
  • Former ILM members Dave Carson and Habib Zargarpour received nominations in the game categories.
  • There was no dominant project on TV, only Battlestar Galactica received more than one nomination (it received 2 in the Outstanding Animated Character).
  • Commercial, music videos and similar nominated projects was a combination, as usual, of big companies like Digital Domain and Framestore CFC and small houses.
